Mangal Dosha: When It Matters and When It Does Not
Half the charts labelled manglik are not, once you check the cancellation rules.
Mangal dosha is the single most over-diagnosed condition in Indian astrology. A chart gets labelled manglik, a marriage gets delayed by two years, and in a large share of those cases the dosha was cancelled from the start.
What the dosha actually is
Mars placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the lagna is the classical definition. Some traditions count from the Moon or from Venus as well, which is where much of the confusion begins — a chart can be manglik from one reference point and perfectly clean from another.
The cancellation rules nobody checks
Several standard conditions neutralise the dosha entirely. Mars in its own sign or in exaltation, Mars aspected by Jupiter, both partners carrying the dosha, or Mars in a movable sign in certain positions — each of these removes the concern. A competent reading applies these before pronouncing anything.
What to do with the answer
If the dosha is genuine and uncancelled, it points to friction in the marriage rather than doom. The practical response is timing — marrying after a certain age, or during a supportive dasha — not abandoning a match.
